Book Excerpt
Here and Gone

Our engagement party stood out as the soirée of all soirées: co-workers, friends, and I invited Kamisha. I unexpectedly grew used to the flamboyant lifestyle, but on the inside - it wasn’t me. The focus of the night centered on Didier and I and it overwhelmed me. People I barely knew, or never met congratulated me, and young ladies eyed me with envy. Whispers circulated the room: Who is she? Where did she come from?  Then You don’t belong… You don’t belong in smudged lipstick echoed inside me. I snuck away finding a deserted room I closed the door behind me and took a deep breath then composed myself. The echoes in my head faded, and I emerged into the hallway.
The door closed behind me and a warm, sweaty hand slipped across my mouth. Heavy breathing followed by a crackling voice said, “You need to go back to wherever you came from, Justine.” Her voice reverberated inside me and Sam’s self-defense skills blossomed into action as I grabbed hold of the mystery woman’s arm and slung her over my shoulder. A puff of dark hair and a small frame came thundering forward, landing on the floor with a loud thud. I drove my shoe into her side for good measure and ran down the hall, rounding the corner I ran into Sam.
The expression on my face gave away my fear. “Wow! Where have you been? What happened?”
“I threw her in the hall, on the floor.” I squeaked. He burst down the hall.
Didier’s forehead creased with lines and his eyes grew dark as he walked towards me. He scrutinized our actions. “Where is Sam?”
“I used the skills he taught me. A woman caught me from behind, I flipped her, and left her in the hall crumpled on the floor.”
A look I didn’t expect came over his face as his lips curled into a smile of satisfaction. “I will remember not to get on your bad side. Was she the same woman from Aruba?”
“I don’t think so. Her hair was dark and short, although her size and frame are correct. With her hair covering her face, I can’t be sure.”
The woman disappeared by the time Sam arrived. He and security scoured every inch of the hotel, and scanned the video footage, though apparently she busted the camera in that hallway. My immediate thought was, how convenient you little bitch. They didn’t find her, although we didn’t come up empty handed. I threw her so hard she left a small blood stain behind, it got collected and sent in for analysis. In the cover of night she fled, but I would soon know who she was and I’d be ready. My devious mind schemed for her return.

Over the next few weeks, I assisted in planning my wedding and succumbed to being a public societal figure. In the past I worried about my transgressions slamming me in the face, but now I looked my fear in the eye and assisted in the hosting and planning of various charity events. I wanted this would-be assailant woman to find me. With my ears open and eyes peeled, I watched and waited.

Author Interview
1. Where are you from? The San Francisco Bay area but since have moved to Florida.
2. Tell us your latest news? Publishing Baby Girl Box Set. I’ve spent the past year and a half writing and publishing this book in short stories. Having them all together in one book is my dream.
3. When and why did you begin writing? I’ve been writing most of my life from the time I was a little girl and drew and designed my own comic books to a teenager writing poetry and finally writing novellas.
4. When did you first consider yourself a writer? When I published my first book. I’ve been writing most of my life so deciding and going through with publishing was a big step and a massive accomplishment.
5. What inspired you to write your first book? The love for writing and telling stories. My imagination has a mind of its own. There aren’t usually specific events that generally inspire a story it’s more a spark of creativity that plants in my head and grows into a story. Once it develops beyond the size of my head I type out a rough draft.
6. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? I’d have to say the message in Baby Girl is that humans we have the capacity to survive even in harsh conditions and not every street child has a sad ending. They can rise above their situation – everybody can rise above a difficult situation.
7. How much of the book is realistic? Her story in general is fiction but I drew on aspects of my own life. Cleo and I are both survivors. We find ways against all odds to make something happen.
8. Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life? City by the Bay Book 3 takes place in San Francisco. I grew up in the area and relived learning to drive. My dad taught me to drive in a green two door pinto then I bought a two door brown Honda Civic stick shift. He had to teach me again so I could drive it. Most of the bay area is hilly as Cleo explains in the book. Learning to drive an automatic up and down hills was a different experience than driving the stick shift, rolling backwards into the car behind me was my worst fear. I learned quick how to keep the car from rolling backwards!
What books have most influenced your life most?
9. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor? Marcha Fox and Susanne Leist. I don’t consider them mentors so much as colleagues that I have grown to love and appreciate.
10. What book are you reading now? I’m always reading something. Candi Silk’s The Aroused Milf has been begging my attention lately. Next in line is Robyn Roze HellKat. My Kindle and Google Play Books Apps are always loaded with books.
11. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest? That’s a loaded question but since you asked new I’ll narrow it down to Mark Tillbury, Barbara Chioffi, and Dyane Forde. I recently found these authors and they are amazing!
12. What are your current projects? Currently I’m working on Calm Before the Storm Evan’s Sins Volume 2 in the Ruthless Storm Trilogy. Writing this series is different than Baby Girl. Each book isn’t sequential to the next. Volume 2 is a prequel so I went backwards in time instead of forwards. Volume 2 is also written in third person vs. my usual first person. But for this story it’s important for the reader to know what’s happening with each character not just Evan.
13. Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members. There is no one entity but many. I have already named a few but I also want to give Ashley Haines a huge thank you for all her help with releasing Baby Girl Box Set. I couldn’t have done it all without her.
14. Can you share a little of your current work with us? I can. Here is my disclaimer before you read. It’s not edited and is not for those easily scared.
“The family plus Evan ate dinner by candlelight. The flames caused shadows to bounce on the walls. Eilida snuggled Sandy close and tried not to look towards the stranger but she couldn’t ignore the creeping, disfigured shadow on the wall behind him. Its arms tendrils of black unfurled to reveal a shiny object dripping in red. Eilida watched in horror as the shadow moved towards her mother seated beside her. She twisted in her high chair, eye wide as flying saucers. She wanted to scream, tried to scream but her vocal buckled and no sound escaped her lips.
“Evan turned his upper body as far as possible looking at the area. Nothing, calm. Then it hit him he was in the eye of the storm. He tilted his head toward the heavens, blackness and a few stars. No sign of the moon. A new moon. Eight years in Windy Oaks in-patient care and two years out-patient care Even was a model patient and was afforded many privileges. He used them to used study hurricanes and a bit of astrology and understood a new moon meant time to set a purpose and plan. The beginning of a new phase of life. A lopsided grin tugged at the corners of his lips. He fulfilled the new moon prophecy without giving it any thought. Plain and simple dumb luck.”
15. Who designed the covers? All the book covers were designed by Author Manuela Cardiga. Cleo’s face is an original Creation of hers. I have to brag on her for a moment I love her books and admire her talents. I’m a single talented author I can write but she writes poems, books, and dabbles in graphic design.

16. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers? I’m very thankful for all your support. Writing brings me great pleasure and I hope my books give you great pleasure to read. I haven’t decided yet whether Cleo’s adventure is finished. If you think there should be more books I encourage you to share your opinions with me.

Excerpt
Simon pulled to a strange dirt parking lot on the side of the road. Cars of all kinds were haphazardly parked and I assumed it was other pack members. We got out and I looked around. A small trail led into the woods and suddenly there was a lump in my throat that I couldn’t breathe past.
“There’s magic around here.” I whispered. “Weres can’t be witches or warlocks.”
“Yes, but it doesn’t mean we don’t ally with them. Come on, follow me.” He held his hand out to me.
I looked at it for a moment before I decided to take it. I wanted the comfort he might be able to provide me. Our fingers interlocked and I calmed a little bit. I closed my eyes for a moment and focused. I could feel his wolf counterpart within him, another soul and another aura if I tried to see it.
He tugged on my hand and I followed him down the path and through the tall trees. I could feel others, I could feel magic below my feet. A witch had blessed the ground. It was supposed to feel like home, but since I was a stranger, it felt wrong for me to be here. It was used to welcome people and keep unwanted visitors away. It made me sick to my stomach, but I pushed on.
Simon and I came to a stop at a large cabin in a clearing. The fire department would have called the lack of trees mitigation, but I knew it was a circle, part of the spell a witch did for them. If I had to guess there was probably a mile on each side of the cabin.
“It’s beautiful.” I said and examined the logs and the design of the cabin. “How many can it house?”
“Twenty to thirty, depending on if we double up in the rooms.  Each room has two beds, but we have extra cots if need be.” He let go of my hand as someone walked out.
I’d never met the Alpha, but I knew this was him. His black hair was cut short and his brown gaze cut into me. He stood tall and demanded attention. Like Simon, he was dressed in older clothes, and I assumed it meant they wouldn’t care if they got ruined. The muscles of his arms were solid and his chest strained against the tight muscle shirt that he wore. Yeah, I wouldn’t stand a chance in a fight against this guy, even if he was human.
Simon bowed his head. “Alpha.”
“Simon, so this is her?” His eyes ran over my body and I raised a brow. I had dressed in my normal black clothes with boots. I had, as requested, left the gun in the car, but my blade was sheathed across my back, hidden by my jacket.
Simon put a hand on my back and urged me to step forward.
“I’m Abigail.” I offered my hand, but Greg grabbed my wrist and jerked me forward. I caught myself with a hand against his chest.
“You are a threat to my people, you offer me the back of your neck in submission.” He growled. “Do you understand that?”
I gritted my teeth and pulled my braid away from the back of my neck and bowed low enough that I offered it to him. My verbal answer wouldn’t have been good enough. He was trying to show off his strength, his power, and I was willing to bet other members of the pack were watching from the windows of the cabin. Arguing with him wouldn’t have done me any good.
I felt his teeth bite the back of my neck. It wasn’t enough to hurt, but enough that I knew he was trying to dominate me. The gesture felt strange in human form, but I let it go. He backed away and let go of my wrist.
I straightened up and met his gaze. I proved that I wasn’t there to threaten him, but I refused to act submissive to him in other terms. “I appreciate your invitation for tonight.”
“I figured I wouldn’t have a choice as soon as you realized that Matthew was here. You’re PIB, laws say I have to work with you. Instead, I invited you here.”
“So I’d have to follow your rules.” Smart. “If we’re playing paranormal politics, that means I must make you aware of my connections to Leviticus Felecos, ruling vampire of the Four Corners Territory.”
He bowed his head. “It is understood that you are to cause no harm while you are here.”
I had to choose my words carefully, they would bind me to the rules for the night. If I went against my word it meant that I could be killed. Levi had taught me well when it came to this. “I will not cause harm as long as my life is not threatened and I request that my witness remains alive so I can use him to close my case.”

MY REVIEW
This book is by far one of the best from A.L. Kessler. Having the pleasure of seeing her style evolve has been a  real treat. No More Black Magic read like a tv show. I so saw it play as I read it. I like the way she had me sitting on the edge of my seat thru out the whole story. At times I was sad for Abby other times I was screaming at my kindle like WHAT NO Seriously that just happened ? This book is chalked full of plot twists and just when you think you have it figured out it twists again and makes you start guessing again. To me the book was just right in length not to short not to long not to gory even though some of the descriptions were like WOW!!! sorry no spoilers lol if you want to know what I am talking about go grab your copy of No More Black Magic TODAY!!! Trust me its well worth it and you won't be disappointed

When I first set out to write Black and White it was a joke, a simple let’s see if I can do this, and then it turned into my SPE project. Something happened that I didn't expect: I feel in love with the characters. I never really expected it to go far, but then because of contract reasons I had to send it to my publisher before I could do anything else with it. They accepted it, but because of issues with their time management and how they treat their staff and authors, I requested my rights back. They were granted back to me and I quickly went to get it out to the public.  Luckily for me, I had a great group of people behind me to help me make it happen.

Now, before you tell me that I want to be the next E.L. James. I never dreamt I’d be writing erotic romance, never mind BDSM erotic romance. It’s just something that happened. My husband and I have been in the life style for close to five or six years now. It’s something that is near and dear to my heart. That being said, just a couple notes about Black and White: It’s fiction, a BDSM relationship does not develop over a few nights or a few weeks, that’s what makes this fiction and fantasy; I've strived to stay true to the life style that I love so much, but I write fiction not self-help books. Please if you’re interested in the BDSM lifestyle, do your research, talk to someone who lives it, and no matter what stay safe. If you’re not interested in the lifestyle, please do not be so quick to judge.
Thank you.

The leather covered stand was a rectangle on four feet and hit me a little below my waist. I nodded and bent over it, the edge hit right at my waist as I bet over my breasts hung off the other side. Exposed and vulnerable, my panic started to bubble in me. I started to get up, and he put a hand on my back. "Relax, remember your safe words."
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. "Green." I wouldn't let nervousness of something new take this experience from me. None of my ex’s could figure out what I needed in bed. At least Landon was willing to try something different.
He kicked my feet apart, forcing me into a less comfortable stance and exposing my wet core. I shivered, as the cold air seemed to touch me places it shouldn't have been able too. "Stay there. Don't move." He purred, and his footsteps grew soft as he moved away from me. A clicking sound grew in the room and I tried to turn my head to see what he was getting out of the chest.
"Uh uh, I said not to move."
I took a deep breath as my body clenched and the wetness dripped down my leg. The anticipation curled in me as my mind entertained ideas of what he could be plotting. When he returned something soft wrapped around my wrists and then my ankles. The four faint clicking sounds told me I was being restrained to the legs of the horse.
His hands brushed over my back. “How we doing, pet?"
"I'm good, I mean Green."
He chuckled and disappeared for another moment. I couldn’t help but pull on the restraints, testing them to see if they really held me in place. They bit into my skin the harder I pulled and the pressure of trying to rise up off the horse only pushed the wood into my hips.
There was a faint swooshing in the air and I mentally cursed as excitement filled me. I tried to reason with my brain, but I lost the battle. Something smacked my bottom and caused me to cry out. Whatever he had hit me with left a faint stinging on my ass, but I craved more. The craving made no sense, but as the pain faded, I found myself wiggling my ass for more.
"Very good." He praised and repeated the motion. This time my cry wasn't as loud, the third time I made more of a mewling noise as pain gave way to pleasure. He put the item down and his soft hand made loving circles on my ass over the stinging marks. I took shaking breaths as he soothed my sores. "You handled that well, but I think my little pet started to enjoy that." His hand slid between my legs, testing the wetness there. "Yes, yes you did." He slipped two fingers inside me, pressing against my sweet spot.
A thrill went through my body and a moan escaped from my mouth. His fingers stroked that delicious spot and pleasure started to build deep in the pit of my stomach. I let out a small noise of protest when he pulled his fingers out, leaving my core aching for more.
"You're very responsive, I like that, it makes things more fun." He lifted my hair and kissed the back of my neck. I tried to fight the shiver crawling down my back when his lips brushed against my skin, but it won out when the sound of his zipper echoed through the quiet room.
Never had sex come up so quickly in a relationship before, but I craved what he was willing to give me. I couldn't explain it, but I wanted to sleep with him...no, I wanted him to fuck me. I needed for him to use my body for his pleasure. My body and mind were too overwhelmed by the sensations to make any sense out of it. As if reading my thoughts he slammed into me, and I groaned as my muscles contracted around his large size, the head of his length rubbing against my sweet spot of surrender. His fingers found my clitoris and started to stroke in the same rhythm he pounded into me with.
Then it started to happen, my mind became fuzzy as I reached a point where I didn't care if I could move, or about the pain of the horse biting into my hips. All I cared about was the pleasure flowing through me at every touch he gave me. The thrusts changed between pleasure and a touch too rough, pressing me harder against the device, with my braid still wrapped around his wrist pain threaded through my body, but it only added to the pleasure. My toes started to curl as my muscles tensed. The pleasure built in my stomach, curling into a ball, waiting to explode. He flicked my delicate bud and tension in me became painful until a delicious tingling exploded through my body, each of my muscles relaxing as my core clenched and tightened around his cock.  With a final thrust his seed shot into my quivering body.
My vision seemed to fade as I continued to buck against the horse, riding out the pleasure. The smell of sex tainted the air and clung to my lungs as I tried to relearn how to breathe. My body slouched and relaxed against the furniture, welcoming the cool leather against my scorching skin. I no longer fought the restraints. Landon pulled out of me and moved to my front so I could see his spent cock. He ran a hand over my head and the motions calmed and soothed me. Disappearing from my view he started to unlatch my limbs, leaving the cuffs on my wrists. I stayed there and rolled my eyes up at him when he returned.
My limbs felt heavy and my mind still foggy from the insane orgasm he’d just given me. I could feel the soreness started to settle in. "I don't think I can move yet."

Now we Have Alexandra Webb here today to kinda tell us how Black & White Desires Became. Let's Welcome her and see what she has to say!

”What would you like to tell everyone about you that they wouldn't already know from reading your books?”
I actually took photography in high school because it had been my mom’s passion. Needless to say I didn't have her talent.
Can you tell us your latest news?
I’ve completed my next BDSM Novel Exclusively Yours and hope to have a release date. I’m also looking at releasing Caught and Bound on it’s own here in the near future.
What inspired you to write your first book?
As Alexandra Webb, my first book actually was Black and White (even though Twisted Redemption came out first). It started out as a joke and a NaNoWriMo project. The joke was with my husband “You can totally write something better than that.” (I’ll keep from naming titles) And I snorted and said, Yeah…and that’s what I set out to do. I did it for the Self Publishing Experiment, but things got haywire. Though through everything, I fell in love with it and strived to make it the best I could before I hit the publish button.
Do you have a specific writing style?
Not really. I try to bring in similar themes, bondage, suspense of some sort, but there’s no true style. Sometimes it’s 3rd person sometimes it’s 1st person. Sometimes it’s long, sometimes short. It’s all sexy though!
How did you come up with the title?
The original title was In Black and White and it was actually an editor with a publishing company that urged me to change it to something sexier. I decided I liked it so much I’d keep it when I left the company.
“What do you want your readers to get out of your novels?”
I want my readers to get the escape they crave when they come for BDSM books, but I also want them to get a sense of how a true BDSM relationship works. I know it’s fiction, but I still strive to be as accurate to the lifestyle as I can.
“Is the book mostly fantasy or do you think these situations could actually happen?”
Now I love music just as much as reading, I normally listen to music while I am reading. Do you think that you characters have theme songs? What would they be?
“Are the experiences fact based or from your imagination?”
A little bit of both. I draw from experiences and research and take it from there. I’ll let you figure out what I have experiences with ;)
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Nope! I’m so totally in love with Erika and Landon that I wouldn’t change a thing about them.
Can you share a little of your current work with us?  Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
My current work, Exclusively Yours, is a story about a woman who had a terrifying experience in the past and it comes back to challenge her current life. It takes place in a club with a sexy detective trying to get to the bottom of some gruesome murders. The challenge for this book was that Leslie at some points is with multiple partners…this isn’t something I have experience with!
Who designed the covers?
I did! With input from people I trusted. Fun fact: It’s my picture on the cover, because it was the only picture that the people agreed on, none of the stock photos were working.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Honestly? The sex scenes. Black and White is written in first person and BDSM sex is not only about the motions of going through sex, but the emotions of the characters. Getting into her head was very emotional.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Don’t listen to the naysayers. Keep going.
I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to answer these for my readers and I. I look forward to seeing more work from you in the future.
