Summary
Pieces-of-Broken-Time-3D-BookstackWhen wounded soldier Blake Connor returns from Afghanistan, he wants nothing more than to hide from the world. He’s plagued by the memory of his best friend’s death and the pain of his own injuries. On top of all that, he has another burden to carry. Take care of our girl. Blake’s vow to watch over the woman who was left behind is overshadowed by his self-contempt and bitterness, making it impossible for him to reach out to her like he’d promised. Jennifer Owens had expected to get married the moment her fiancé returned home from the war, but the news of his death changed everything. Shattered by her loss, she is still struggling with feelings of guilt when she receives an unexpected letter that raises new questions and reopens old wounds. Jennifer’s need for answers leads her to Blake’s doorstep, but she is met with hostility and rejection from a man who only vaguely resembles the head-turning charmer she remembers from so long ago. Blake is determined to keep her at arm’s length, and Jennifer soon discovers that she must decide whether to push back or let him go. Caught up in circumstances beyond their control, Jennifer and Blake have to learn to accept the truths that lie below the surface. She comes to recognize the beauty underneath the scars, and Blake realizes that he’s broken in more ways than he cares to admit. Nothing will ever be the same for this ex-Army Ranger once he faces the truth. If he can learn to accept the help he needs, he might be able to overcome his warped self-image and emotional scars. To be the man Jennifer deserves, he must heal his wounds before he loses the woman he loves forever.
About the Author

She is currently enjoying the buzz from her vampire novels Hunted and Tormented, the first and second book of The Gates Legacy trilogy, Indivisible Line, a romantic thriller, and Feather Light, an erotic romance. Lorenz’s perfect day consists of writing and lounging on her garage couch, aka the office, with a glass of her favorite cabernet while listening to her ever-growing music collection. She enjoys dabbling in different genres, with an intense focus on angst and the redemption of flawed characters. Her fascination with romantic twists is a mainstay in all her stories. 1. What inspired you to write your first book?
Hunted is the very first novel I wrote. It is the first book of The Gates Legacy series. As a lover of vampire stories, it wasnt a surprise that my first journey as a writer delved into the world of these amazing creatures. Hunted is a story of a diseased vampire running from the Vampire Council who has issued a warrant to kill him, if found. This story probes into the difficulties of the affliction as well as the elation of finding a cure. Hunted came about when a friend asked me what would happen if vampires had Aids. I laughed at the absurdity of the question but it got me thinking. For some time, I formulated and strengthened the plot in my head until I came up with a believable concept. What we have in Hunted is a cross between two diseases. Its quite interesting and Im sure Ill have people coming up with questions about them.
2. How did you come up with your current novels title?
Pieces of Broken Time deals with the different and significant periods in the main characters life. The readers are given glimpses of memories that continue to haunt Blake, and constantly remind him that he is broken in more ways than he cares to admit.
3. Is Pieces of Broken Time mostly fantasy or do you think these situations could actually happen?
The premise of the story could happen. Our country is dealing with an influx of soldiers returning home from the war. Its a timely subject matter many of our countrymen and their families and friends are experiencing. Some have to deal with emotional issues while others cope with physical or psychological traumas. Although this story is geared toward romance, I want to bring to light the difficulties each soldier finds themselves in after being exposed to the horrors of war.
4.  Now I love music just as much as reading, I normally listen to music while I am reading. Do you think that your characters have theme songs? What would they be?
There is no particular theme song I associate with the characters but I found myself listening to these songs often as I wrote the entire story. Allow me to share the playlist with you.
* One sweet world- Dave Matthews Band
* Nothing left to lose- Matt Kearney
* In your atmosphere- John Mayer
* Gravity- Sara Bareilles
* Rain king- Counting Crows
* 1000 things- Jason Mraz
* Sleeping to dream- Jason Mraz
* Collide- Howie Day
* In your eyes- Jeffrey Geines
* Broken- Seether
* Breakdown- Seether
* Highway to hell- AC/DC
* The mess I made- Parachute
5. Are the experiences fact-based or from your imagination?
Ive been asked several times if the main character, Blake Connor, is based on anyone I know personally. This is pure imagination. I wish I could say that I know a hero in real life, but Im not that exciting. This story is just a product of my imagination and hours of research.

6. Who designed the book cover?

First of all, I want to give a shout out to my good friend and cover designer, Claudia Trapp, owner of Phantasy Graphic Design, for making the cover for this book and the other books I have out there.

We started by discussing the story and the characters and then I gave her an idea of what I wanted to see on the cover. I browsed through her portfolio and found a picture of a couple which I immediately asked her to take down because its now mine. She did several concepts for me to look at and we zeroed in on one right away. She even dared me to try a blue background for a change. Im glad I listened to her because the end result blew me away.

7. Which comes first- the character's story or the idea for the novel?

This answer applies to all my novels. I usually come up with the concept first then develop the ideas as I go along. This involves coming up with the beginning and the end of the story, the significant in-between scenes and then I develop each characters back story. I believe in giving the characters more depth by providing details on what drove them to do certain things or what makes them react to a situation the way they do.

8. Do you see writing as a career?

I think its every writers dream to write fulltime. The same goes for me. I would love to stay home and write as much as I can. At the moment, I need my day job to help support the family. That is my ultimate goal. Who knows, that dream might come true.

9. Who are your three favorite authors and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
Lets just say I love reading JR Wards, Nicholas Sparks and Stephen Kings stories. These are authors whose writing evokes a multitude of strong emotions in me. With JR Ward, its her gritty approach to writing. Nicholas Sparks is a true romantic. His contemporary romances are well written and never fails to make me swoon. With Stephen Kingthe man is a master of writing thrillers that keeps me on my toes. I have their stories in book form, in my Kindle, and audio book collection.

10. Can you tell us your latest news?

I have several projects in the pipeline. Im currently in the editing phase of Ascension- the third installment of The Gates Legacy. Ascension is set to release early next year. Im also writing the fourth book of the same series, entitled Reckoning.

Aside from juggling writing and editing, Im promoting the blog tour for Pieces of Broken Time. The blog tour is already underway. Please follow my interviews, guest posts and reviews.  I also have several author signing events planned for this year. I will be in New Orleans on August 14-17, 2014 for the Author Reader Convention (ARC), and then another author event on October 4, 2014 at the Burbank Public Library.
