Q&A with Garrard Hayes Author Of BOURBON & BLOOD Crime Thriller

Hey Everyone! How are we doing today? So I Know we normally post Q&A's on Wednesday's but I need you all to please bare with me right now. It is tough times right now but none the less I have the Q&A today and let me tell you its good so with out any further interruptions I give you Garrard Hayes Author of Bourbon & Blood

What would you like to tell everyone about you that they wouldn't already know from reading your books?
I love action books, movies, TV and video games. I’ve been a huge James Bond fan since I was a child. I used to run around the house pretending to take down bad guys. I’m also a traditionally trained fine artist and during the day I’m a Creative Director at an Interactive advertising agency.

Can you tell us your latest news?
I’m working with some folks to make Bourbon & Blood into an unabridged audiobook.  I’ve hired a New York actor as the narrator.

When were you first bitten by the writing bug?
It’s been many years since I had my paintings in a New York City Art Gallery. I wanted to start painting again, but my wife didn’t want me making a mess in her house. I wanted to keep her happy so I decide to paint with words. I had been reading nothing but Crime Fiction for five years, so I gave it a shot. Bourbon & Blood took a year to write, edit and publish.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I still don’t really consider myself a writer. I’m a student of writing and art, always learning. I’ve begun my journey to better myself through writing projects.

What inspired you to write your first book?
The authors that inspired me the most are Adrian McKinty, James Lee Burke and Ken Bruen. Something special happened to me while reading Ken Bruen’s novels. His characters and dialogue were so amazingly that I was inspired to start writing about my own group of misfits.

Do you have a specific writing style?
I’m still trying to find my voice and style. I hope to one day evolve into a combination of James Lee Burke and Ken Bruen. Bringing readers on an action ride of dark atmosphere and gritty dialogue.

How did you come up with the title?
The novel was originally going to be called “9 Crimes”, but the underlining current throughout the novel was bourbon and blood so I changed the name.

I would say I like the Title Bourbon & Blood! If it was called "9 Crimes" I don't think I would have looked at it. The title is interesting and I would have to say yes Bill was always drinking and there was lots of blood at times!

What do you want your readers to get out of your novels?

I want the readers to get caught up in Bill’s efforts as a regular guy caught up in a bad situation. My goal was to keep a pace fast and not let the reader come up for air.

Coming up for air? Hmmm I would have to say after chapter 7 Yes I don't remember being able to stop as you will see in my review tomorrow what I have to say about that!

Is the book mostly fantasy or do you think these situations could actually happen?

I spent a lot of time researching current events in New York, drugs, prostitution and gang activity. So I believe while Bourbon & Blood is a crime fantasy, it contains vividly real elements of today’s dark world.

Now I love music just as much as reading, I normally listen to music while I am reading. Do you think that you characters have theme songs? What would they be?
If I had to put music to Bill’s life it would be U2. In my mind anytime he gets into a car he’s listening to U2.

Are the experiences fact based or from your imagination?
The novel is a combination of news events and place that I’ve been to while living, working and growing up in New York.
What books have most influenced your life most?
The book that has had the biggest influence on me is a novel called Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. This was the first book I read that led me to reading crime fiction and although I don’t tout it, I have not been able to find another novel like it. I’m still searching, but it has led me to some amazing writers.
Which other authors do you feel have had the most influences on you as both a reader and a writer?
Adrian Mckinty and James Lee Burke have had the most influence on my reading and writing. I’ve re-read McKinty’s Dead Trilogy and Burke’s Hackberry trilogy several times.
What book are you reading now?
I usually read one book and listen to another. I find that audiobooks are awesome in the car while running errands or traveling if your have a great narrator. I’m currently reading  “A Cold Red Sunrise” by Stuart M. Kaminsky and listening to “A Morning for Flamingoes” by James Lee Burke.
Have there been any authors that interest you by their writing styles or subjects?
I originally was a big Horror and Sci-Fi fan, so Stephen King and Dan Simmons were my favorites.
What are your current projects?
I’m currently working on the sequel to Bourbon & Blood and planning a stand-alone novel to bring attention to gun control laws in the USA.
Do you see writing as a career?
I wish! Right now it’s just for fun. I can only keep writing and hope that when I grow up I can be a full-time writer.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Not a thing. I love a good story with a great cliffhanger.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Without giving too much away, my grandparents were from Russia and I’ve been enjoying my research for the sequel.
Who are your three favorite authors and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
Adrian Mckinty for his brutality and grittiness. Ken Bruen for his sharp wit and dialogue and James Lee Burke for his realism and atmosphere.
Have you done any promotional tours for your books?
I haven’t done any book tours yet. I still have to keep my day job to feed the family.
So being on Ashley's Addictive Book Blog this week is your first time being featured like this?
Who designed the covers?
I designed and digitally created my cover.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The hardest part of writing is find time to write and balancing all the thing your have to do as a Husband, Father, Employee, Cook, Dog sitter, Artist and sadly last writer.
What did you learn from writing your book?
The main thing I learned was that you really can live the dream if you slowly chip away at what you want. I set a goal of 1,000 words a day and even though I didn’t meet it religiously it kept me thinking about it and I did complete my ultimate goal of finishing the novel.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Read, write and dream. If you want it to happen bad enough it will.
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I just hope that they enjoy the ride. I had a blast writing Bourbon & Blood and in some ways it’s a tribute to the action movies of the 70s and 80s.
Which comes first? The character's story, or, the idea for the novel?
My process is very similar to Stephen King. I create a situation with a main character and dig up the fossils that become the story. My characters speak to me as I brush off the dirt.
What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer?
Start a writing project, chip away at it until it’s you reach your goal. If you’re having fun your readers will too. In some ways it’s like saving pennies everyday. After a while you have a whole lot of pennies to do something with.
Is there anything else that you would like to add?
I want to thank you Ashley for giving me this opportunity to meet your readers and bring them a piece of my imagination. Hopefully they’ll enjoy my crime thriller ride.
I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to answer these for my readers and I. I look forward to seeing more work from you in the future.

Bourbon & Blood By Garrard Hayes

Well I have to say after 3 long weeks of illness I am back and better as ever so with this I now introduce Garrard Hayes Author of Bourbon & Blood A Crime/Mystery Thriller that keeps you gasping at each chapter.

Intro to the book:  In the tradition of action-packed noir thrillers, comes a crime fiction story about an otherwise good guy "bent" bad when he's pulled into the underbelly of the New York City crime scene.

Drugs, sex slavery, prostitution and murder... Former soldier and decorated war hero Bill Conlin finds himself immersed in it all when he can't find "respectable" work after his tour in Afghanistan. When his cousin, Jimmy, first tries to talk him into joining Irish mafia boss Frank Sullivan's gang, Bill brushes him off. When he is forced into an interview there's no escape. See what happens next.

All Bill really wants is a normal life with a nice girl, and he's pretty sure the waitress he just met, Dana, is the one. But with his savings running low, and desperate to get out of his Hell's Kitchen near-tenement apartment building, Bill, against his better judgment, agrees to a meeting with Mr. Sullivan--and immediately hits the point of no return... Now with a brand new Lincoln and fancy new uptown digs (complete with a live-in girl whose only purpose is to serve him, and a wardrobe packed with weapons), Bill's tasked to take down a Harlem-based Mexican prostitution ring.

One thing leads to another, however, and the deeper he gets, the more he learns, and the more tangled up he becomes in a lifestyle he never wanted. But how long until he takes matters into his own hands... And what will the ultimate cost be...

Mystery and suspense lurk around every corner in this action & adventure novel based in New York City.

MoJo by M. Jet

MojoMojo by M Jet
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hey Readers Mojo was far the best read short erotic book of 2014 thus far. I felt for Simone, how she felt after having the children and what not. I also felt for Desmone. In a relationship it is a two way street and no it is not always about the sex. but us women think it is sometimes. In a way I found myself apart of the book it happened to me a few years ago however I never had the joys of trying the special mojo mix M Jet had in the book but let me tell you I want to try it. Like I said this is a fast read about 21 pages long and once it picks up man oh man you ever hear the saying leave the best for last I have to say this was the best HEA book I have read this year!!! Have fun reading and I hope you find my review helpful. For more reviews author interviews updates cover reveals and giveaways and much more follow me on all my sites!!!!

                                                                                            EXCERPT from the book

Zuehb Salim sneered, his hand raised with a finger on the detonation device. People were running, grabbing their children and getting as far from the area as possible. The man looked down at the odd noise coming from beneath him. Paul heard the pumps click on underground and watched as the water from the interactive fountain erupted under the woman’s feet. The man opened his mouth in surprise just as the powerful jet of water pummeled his face, drenching him instantly. The man roared and wrenched the woman’s head to the side.
“Damn it!” Paul ran forward, watching the woman’s shocked expression as she fell to the ground. Paul fired three shots hitting the man with each round. He staggered backward as Paul reached him before he hit the ground. Paul heard the man gasping for air and watched as the blood bubbled from his lips.
He grabbed the man’s hand with the detonator, trying to keep his fingers from the button. Paul drew his knee into the man’s groin hard and blinked as a mist of blood and spittle hit his face. Paul grabbed Salim’s wrist and snapped it, the man screamed in pain as the bulge in his wrist turn a dark crimson color where the bone had shattered underneath. Paul pulled and twisted harder until the bone cut its way from the man’s arm and protruded outward sending the detonator skittering across the concrete fountain.
He tore at his shirt and grimaced at Paul, his finger poised over a button on the vest.
“Allahu Akbar.”
Salim’s finger whitened with exertion on the secondary detonator and Paul heard the click before he could stop him.

This book was published on kindle on November 23,2013
It is 436 pages of mind blowing suspense.
Written by Gunnar Angel Lawrence. This is his Second novel and he is working on his third one, hoping to have it out by 2015.

Gunnar found me on Facebook and asked me if I would be interested in his book and reviewing for him. When he told me I almost passed it up because it is not of the romance genre. However Gunnar sent me a link to the YouTube link of his book trailer. I was like wow that was interesting. So I said yes. I started the book and had it done with in a few days. The book does switch form one character to the next so at first I was a little lost but it tied its self up toward the middle with a great OMG HOOK!!!! You will have to read for yourself! OH Wait you have if you have made it this far in my review!!! So as I read on I was more and more sucked into the book before I knew it. I was Done!

This Book Gets only one rating due to the fact that there is NO KINK IN IT AT ALL!! Yes I know I was just as shocked myself that I found something that was not a romance and enjoyed it better yet loved it. I am adding mysteries and suspense to my list because of it. So the Over all star rating for the Perfect Day is 5 Stars!!! Outstanding Job Gunnar the way you have tied in suspense and action was phenomenal!!!! Thanks for the Awesome read.

From Gunnar:

The inspiration for The Perfect Day actually comes from a real plot by terrorists to attack America. During the war in Afghanistan a terrorist training camp was raided by US Military. Inside this terrorist camp documents were found detailing a multi-city attack across the entire country on a single day. The book centers around what would happen if that attack started in Orlando, Florida. How would ordinary people react given an all-out attack? And it all starts with a double murder.

Well there you have it Everyone The Perfect Day By Gunnar Angel Lawrence the sequel to Fair Play Hope you enjoyed the read I did. If you like this please leave a comment on the blog letting me know how much you enjoy reading my work as well if you want to purchase the book here are the links

In 'Dogs of War' we rejoin Halo Bay and the Hellhounds as they adjust to an unexpected loss. Weakened and feeling as if they may be losing the battle, the Hellhounds reach out to the most unlikely of creatures...that of the vampires. At Ari's insistence, two very powerful vampires are called upon to help them. Hunter, who has a sordid past with Dorin and Vanessa, Queen of the vampires, and daughter to Dracula himself. As they struggle to solidify their new alliance Halo finds she has to barter with the only thing she truly owns. Herself. This is a deal that Lucifer is eager to seal, and blinded by love, Halo may be stepping into a plan set in motion centuries before she even existed. Will she restore the balance between Heaven and Hell, or will it be become the final seal?

                                                                                                       Check out the trailer

Excerpt from the book:

I fell to my side as I saw feet coming towards me. Black booted ones. Strong arms scooped me up, a chest to lean against. I listened to a heart beating, thump, thump, thump, its rhythm making me feel at ease. Was it a policeman? A neighbor? Or perhaps an EMT? I did not know. I closed my eyes as my heart slowed and when I woke up again I was laying on a sandy shoreline, black sky overhead with lighting crackling through it like thin spidery fingers. I pushed myself up, I then realized I felt no pain. I looked down and the blood was gone, as well as the deep cut to my stomach. I ran my fingers over the smooth skin on my stomach for a minute and then breathed out, white smoke rising up in the chilled air. Then I slowly looked up as lightning lit up the sky again and a million shadows stared me down, standing out in front of me like a crowd at a concert. They slowly started to approach me and I took one step back, only to find myself teetering on the edge of a cliff now. I caught my balance and looked down. I had no idea where the water went to but my new concern was that of NOT falling.

What reviewers are saying about Hellhound: Dogs of War

"Written in true Rue Fashion. Raw, Fresh and Real."

"...leaves you gasping for air and fanning yourself."

"...deliciously lickable men and toe-curling sex."

"Only Rue Volley could make me want to bite Lucifer."

                                                                           From Rue:

The inspiration for HELLHOUND was simple. It is a culmination of all of my favorite things wrapped up into one. I have a deep love for history so adding in Vikings and Romans was so much fun to do. I am also fascinated with Heaven and Hell and what true dynamic there is between the two of them, so in this story I explore that as well. I also love vampires and anything paranormal in nature. Taking something like the idea of a HELLHOUND and making it my own was a pleasure to do and the best part about being a writer of fiction. I also LOVE writing EROTICA, mainly because there is no box you have to stay in and I can play as hard as I like to. No pun intended. wink

Summery of the book
When aspiring actress, Jade Hamilton, gets a valet job at Belvederes, the best restaurant in LA, she loves it! She is mesmerized by all the glamour on display all the time. Little does she know that she is about to develop a major crush on billionaire Graham Dermont Prescott III who has his pick of women. Will he return her affection? Why is he still single? What is he hiding?

OH Boy!!! What is Graham hiding? I fell in love with this book right away. Ok so it is not hard for me to love a book, But this one was kind of different in a way it reminded me of another book I read not to long ago. The story in general was good. I think it could have been longer than what it was. The ending was brutal. There is so much more to be said with this book such as what is Jades mom going to say when she finds out she has went to the next step with Graham? Or what about the contract he made her sign? Is he going to try some of her soft limits. Jade responded so well to the scene she was placed into that Graham could go a long way with her. Other than the ending I would say this short book was great I give it a Overall 5 star rating and as for Kink the BDSM in this story was done right there for I also give kink rating a 5 Star as well. Great work Harley Baker this three pack bundle was a great set, I would love to see more of Graham and Jade as well as for Lucy and Chuck.

I would like to Say thank you to Harley for coming by to Ashley's Addictive Book Blog for the week we only have a day left to finish up the giveaway so if you have not entered yet head on over to the giveaway post and enter for a chance to win the three pack bundle from Harley Baker. Summery of the 10,000 word book- Curvy Toni Butler is a widow with two kids who has been too depressed to even think about sex. Enter super sexy Brazilian billionaire, Victor Maximiano, who likes what he sees and goes after it! Can he convince her that their love is worth taking the risk?
Warning: This 10,000-word erotic romance short story is full of hot sex! If you are under 18 or easily offended, stay away!

Over all rating- 5 Stars The BEST HEA that I have Ever read
Hey Readers if your looking for a quick fast read that will take your heart away than this is the book to get. Harley has taken what could be a devastating event and turned it in to the best love story with a few hot steamy spots that will take you away. Don't just take my word for it read for yourself. You will not regret it. This I promises

Kink Rating- 5 Stars this short story has some of the HOTTEST Sex in it I have ever read. It has Public sex but it's not public. They are in public but alone and I just did not see that coming.

My Review- This book took me away I had it done in just under an hour. When Harley describes Toni and how she is alone with two kids because her husband past away, and she had to do what it took to provide for her kids. I cried it was so touching. Toni's dedication to her kids is just phenomenal. When Toni meets Victor for the first time some thing inside her wakes up. She has not been with anyone for 6 years and when she goes on a date with Victor for the first time she is woken up completely. To describe Toni I fill that this song fits her best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YxaaGgTQYM Victor on the other hand is the one who is waking her up and the song to describe that is going to have to be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqdFnKcmOHk. I love the way that Harley had it where the children were ok with their mom going out on a date again. And I also love how Victor loves the children as if they were already his. The way he describes how he wants Toni to have more made me laugh I was not expecting that at all. The ending to this story was complete I do not fill like Harley left anything out. If she was to go on the story might lose its spunk. This is the perfect short quick romance for someone to just escape for a short time. I know I did.

Well there you have it readers if I go on to say more I might as well give you the story so head on over to amazon and pick up your copy today. Also Harley is doing a giveaway and 4 luck winners will get a copy of the 3-pack bundle so head on over to Ashley's Addictive Book Blog Facebook page click the giveaways tab and enter only one day left.

Harley Baker Author Interview

Hey Everyone! I hope you all have had a wonderful New Year. Well to bring in the New Year the first thing that is going to be on Ashley’s Addictive Book Blog is the none other Awesome Erotic Author Harley Baker. If you have been following us all week you already know a little about Harley. Harley writes erotic novels with happy ever after’s at the ends. I have come to love her work and Can’t wait to get my hands on more of her work I hope she continues to write more many more years to come! So without further more babbling from me I give you Harley Baker Author of A Billionaire’s Crush , Do you Trust Me?, And The Billionaire’s Plumber.

When and why did you begin writing?

When I was a little girl, I always had a pen and paper in hand. I wrote letters to my parents that they still have to this day usually informing them of some injustice I had suffered like my sister getting more ice cream than me. Santa got a handwritten letter each year from me that I had painstakingly pored over again and again because I was just sure that he would put me on the naughty list for not writing well. Isn't it ironic that these days I am perpetually on the naughty list and rather enjoy it! Wink ;)

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When my first check arrived and it was more than $2.75, which is what I predicted I would earn. But even better than money is the feeling that comes from being told someone spent their very own precious time and money on my books, and they are glad they did because my stories resonated with them. That is a truly remarkable thing for a gal's heart to experience. I could very well see myself getting addicted to that sort of thing.

What inspired you to write your first book?

One of my very first book crushes was on Encyclopedia Brown! Once I picked up the first one, I was hooked! I forced myself to finish every story before I looked in the back for the solutions. Mimicking Donald J. Sobol, I would write my own short stories, and then see if other people could solve the mysteries. My first published book was Two Friends and a Bartender. There was no happily ever after in that story. It is just raunchy sex with a stranger and your bff in the alley outside your local watering hole. Ya know normal stuff! Sometimes you just get a hankering for short hot smut! Wink ;)

Do you have a specific writing style?

I work very hard to ensure that my plots are sturdy and realistic. Even though I write shorts, I hope the reader will get lost in the story and have a wonderful time!

How did you come up with the title?

The Billionaire's Crush just occurred to me as I finished up the ending because that's what Chuck and Lucy's romance feels like.

Do You Trust Me? Got in my head as Graham asked Jade the same question. I thought, "Yep, there's my title!"

The Billionaire's Plumber came to me rather quickly and easily. Toni started out as Victor's plumber, and she considered it a source of pride, not embarrassment, that she was a hardworking single mother. That’s part of what Victor finds so irresistible about her.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

Oh yeah! Definitely! Wink ;)

How much of the book is realistic?

Well, I never dated a billionaire, but I'm not ruling out the possibility. In fact, I wonder if any are reading this.

Now I love music just as much as reading, I normally listen to music while I am reading. Do you think that you characters have theme songs? What would they be?

Toni--Bring Me to Life by Evanescence https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YxaaGgTQYM

Victor--Rabiosa by Shakira featuring Pitbull https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqdFnKcmOHk

Lucy --Bubbly by Colbie Caillat   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWGqoCNbsvM

Chuck--I'm Yours by Jason Mraz  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHTsc9PU2A

Jade --California Girls by Katy Perry and Snoop Dog  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F57P9C4SAW4

Graham--Bent by Matchbox 20  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=969RAKkYESU

If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?

So many! Just to name a few: George R. R. Martin, Judy Blume, and Beverly Cleary. Nicholas Sparks is superb! J.K. Rowling is an unbelievably good story teller. Selena Kitt is living my dream! And my weirdest favorite author is Raminar Dixon.

What book are you reading now?

A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin I will be jumping with anticipation for book 6 as soon as I finish it, so I'm reading it very slowly.

 What are your current projects?

I am currently working on the sequel to The Billionaire's Crush. I cannot wait to find out what happens when Chuck and Lucy return home with their news.

Do you see writing as a career?

Most definitely! That's all I do around the clock, write, edit, publish, repeat. It's a great life for me.

 Who designed the covers?

I have a good friend who does the covers for me, but he won't let me tell you his name. He's afraid a person he knows would find out he's doing it. Let's just say his career is polar opposite to publishing erotica. Wink ;)

Which comes first? The character's story, or the idea for the novel?

It has happened to me both ways. In Do You Trust Me? The story came first, but in the other two, I saw the characters first. As for Victor, I don't think I'll ever get his sexy voice out of my head.

What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer?

It's not as easy as some make it out to be, but if you are willing to work hard and learn lots of new stuff about the changing publishing industry, it can work.

I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to answer these for my readers and I. I look forward to seeing more work from you in the future.
